The Fundraiser

Say Hello to my son Levi. He suffers from aphasia and apraxia caused by bilateral problems in the area between the parietal and temporal lobes. What does that even mean and how can a stem cell therapy help?
Aphasia is an inability to understand or formulate speech due to damage to certain regions of the brain. Apraxia (speech apraxia) is an acquired oral motor speech disorder that affects a person’s ability to translate conscious speech plans into motor plans, resulting in limited and difficult speech ability. A stem cell therapy promises to change that for the better.
Since he was diagnosed with autism at the age of three, his stay-at-home-mother and I have made it our lives’ mission to help him on his journey. A journey full of hurdles which a neurotypical child does not have to overcome. A stem cell therapy could be the solution. Levi is a calm and introverted boy who is not particularly interested in social interaction. Instead, he enjoys his puzzles as well as drawing, for which he has the necessary patience and talent. His happy place is undoubtedly the beach, the movement of the water and the soothing sound of the waves mean pure joy to him!
He Wants To Express Himself — That’s Why He Loves Drawing
However, Levi’s communication barrier, the lack of language, is a constant source of trouble and frustration in our family. I cannot imagine how it must feel for him to be a prisoner of his own mind. His frustration often leads to uncontrollable outbursts of rage and loud screaming and hitting. He also has sensory and motor problems. He is hypersensitive to noise, texture and visual stimulation. Unfortunately, tics in the form of uncontrollable muscle twitches are also part of his everyday life. Needless to say, we do everything possible to help Levi live an independent and fulfilled life. We are sure that we have found a treatment that can help him. Unfortunately, the treatment is far beyond our financial possibilities. As a proud father who is ashamed that he cannot help Levi on his own, I hope to find many generous and compassionate people who will support Levi with a donation so that he can receive stem cell therapy. It can help to restore his damaged brain areas (e.g., the speech center).
